Prison Break: Official trailer for Season 1

Netflix subscribers have been alerted that they only have a matter of days left to watch a 'masterpiece' series, which fans hail as 'one of the best in TV history'.

Prison Break has been a hit on the streaming platform, attracting both loyal fans for repeat viewings and new viewers discovering the binge-worthy show for the first time.

The series originally aired from 2005 to 2008, with a fifth season released in 2017.

It remains one of Netflix's most-watched titles, with What's On Netflix reporting that 2.097 billion hours of the series were viewed between July 2024 and June 2025, equating to 153.79M views across all five seasons.

However, those who haven't yet finished the series are running out of time, as it will be removed from the service on 4 September.

A notification is already appearing on the Netflix app, informing users that the final day to watch is the third.

Viewers wishing to continue watching will need to subscribe to Disney+. A revival of the series is reportedly still in development, although there is no confirmation of when fans can expect to see it, reports the Mirror.

The new series is said to be set in the same universe as the original but will feature different characters. Hulu reportedly ordered a pilot in December last year.

Prison Break's initial storyline follows Michael Scofield, a structural engineer who intentionally gets himself imprisoned in Fox River State Penitentiary to save his wrongly convicted brother, Lincoln Burrows, from death row.

Lincoln was wrongly accused of murdering the Vice President's brother.

Michael's intricate scheme involves getting a comprehensive body tattoo that serves as a detailed map of the prison and its vicinity, before recruiting fellow prisoners to assist in their breakout.

Their getaway becomes entangled due to an extensive conspiracy and the determined chase by authorities, compelling them to manoeuvre through a perilous landscape to establish Lincoln's innocence and avoid being caught.

Whilst it may only boast a 61% score on Rotten Tomatoes collectively, devotees continue to regard it exceptionally highly.

So much so, one declared it is "one of the best and greatest series ever in the TV History."

Another added: "An absolute mind blowing series that'll keep you hooked till the end, it's every episode is like a film itself, hardly there's anytime when you'll be bored."

Someone else shared similar thoughts as they commented: "An absolute masterpiece of storytelling, blending intense action, brilliant suspense, and deep emotional connections. From the very first episode, it grips you with its smartly crafted plot and never lets go. The show's pacing is impeccable, keeping you on the edge of your seat with unexpected twists and thrilling moments."

Prison Break is streaming on Netflix until September 4. It is also streaming on Disney Plus.
