Meghan Markle was dealt a humiliating blow as it has been reported that her wellness retreat has failed to sell out. The Duchess of Sussex, 44, is set to host a women's-only retreat at a five-star hotel at Coogee Beach in Sydney between April 17 and 19. The event, organised by Her Best Life podcast, promises guests an experience of yoga, sound healing, meditation, a psychologist-led session and a disco evening.

There are 300 tickets up for grabs, with prices starting at $2,699 (£1,400) per person. However, plenty of tickets are still available, according to Radar. Sky News Australia host Danica De Giorgio revealed that to combat this, organisers have reportedly reached out to attendees and offered them the chance to bring a friend. "It seems like desperation," she told UK barrister and broadcaster Andrew Eborn.

"A number of people have put themselves on a waitlist … one particular person put themself down for a laugh," he said, revealing he was told how one person put her name down but never confirmed or paid any money.

Eborn continued: "They've now been receiving a number of emails saying we can only hold your place for 24 hours.

"Then they get another one saying, well, go on then, another 24 hours, and if you want to bring a friend, you’re very welcome to bring a friend as well, which would suggest they probably haven't sold out."

He acknowledged that guests will need plenty of relaxation on the retreat if they're having to spend more than $2,000.

Danica added: "We're in the middle of a cost of living and fuel crisis here in Australia so I'm not exactly sure how many people are forking out that sort of money to go and hear Meghan speak and to have a group photo with her."

Meghan's retreat will take place during her visit to Australia with Prince Harry. It marks the couple's first return to the country since their inaugural royal tour in 2018.

The 16-day tour in October that year was the their first major overseas trip as a married couple.

However, their upcoming trip has sparked backlash, with some Australians launching a petition calling for public funds not to be used to support the visit.

"I am excited about them coming Down Under because I want to know what they're going to be down. Are we, as the Aussie taxpayers, going to be forking out money to look after them and for security details?" Danica pondered. "Stay tuned. In a couple of weeks we'll be able to give our viewers the details on all of that."
