Derry Girls: Liam Neeson appears as a police officer

Paramount+ has announced an eight-part heist thriller based on the Belgian series De Dag, for subscribers in the UK and Ireland.

The Day is a compelling drama that unfolds over 24 hours, kicking off when police stumble across a bank robbery mid-heist, the criminals barricade themselves inside, and a siege begins.

The first episode will open from the police perspective, led by hostage negotiator Sylvia 'Vox' Voxley, played by Minnie Driver, star of Emily in Paris.

But the story rewinds and takes viewers inside the bank, reliving the same events through the eyes of the robbers and their hostages.

With each episode flipping perspective between the police operation and the robbers barricaded inside, The Day builds to a finale where the full picture finally snaps into place.

Joining Minnie in the series are Rivals star Luca Pasqualino and Derry Girls actress Louisa Harland.

The Day (working title) is written by Ben Harris and Jesse O’Mahoney and is based on De Dag, created by Jonas Geirnaert and Julie Mahieu.

De Dag originally aired in Belgium from March 2018 to May 2018 and consisted of 12 episodes, and starred Sophie Decleir, Lukas De Wolf, and Jeroen Perceval.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday (April 7), Minnie shared her excitement over starring in The Day. She teased: "New job. Clever scripts, sharp characters. I think you will like it (second slide is just a dress I like)."
