Beverley Callard has threatened to “chin” David Haye after being sent to the dreaded Savannah Scrub on I’m a Celebrity… South Africa. The Coronation Street legend, 69, didn’t hold back after David, 45, chose Scarlett Moffatt over her for his team following the opening trial. The decision meant Beverley was consigned to the secondary camp — a stripped-back setting where contestants survive on basic rations, sleep on wooden beds and even go without a proper toilet door.

And she made her feelings clear straight away on the ITV show. She warned: “Up yours — I will get my own back.” But it was later, as she vented to Adam Thomas, that her anger became even more apparent. Beverley said: “I’ve been a fan of his for years and years and years, but not any more I tell you.” She added: “David Haye flipping sent me to Savannah Scrub! I was thinking, ‘You’re going to get it mate, you are going to get it’.”

“I’ve thought about this, over the hours, thinking that I’m going to chin him and all the rest of it.” Adam replied: “Please don’t chin David Haye!”

The clash came after David won the first trial of the series, filmed in South Africa’s Kruger National Park, earning the power to choose his teammates.

His decision to send Beverley to the harsher camp instead of Scarlett immediately raised eyebrows among both contestants and viewers. Scarlett herself appeared uneasy with the choice.

She told David: “I did appreciate you picking us, but I just think anyone of the age for a free bus pass shouldn’t be sent to Savannah Scrub.” Sources close to the show suggested the move may not go down well.

One insider said David’s decision could come as a surprise, adding: “David is clearly competitive and so perhaps understandably thought Scarlett would be a stronger addition than Bev but it was quite shocking when he did it.”

They added: “Savannah Scrub is entirely stripped back and sending a pensioner to sleep on wooden sticks is somewhat of a choice.”

The episode also saw David clash with Sinitta after selecting Seann Walsh for his team. When questioned about his decision, David said: “I think it’s pretty obvious.” But Sinitta hit back: “That’s just rude.”

She later managed to secure a star ahead of Seann, prompting host Ant McPartlin to ask David: “You’re happy to be proved wrong?”

David replied: “Sinitta rose to the occasion. I’m very happy.” Ahead of the show airing, David had already hinted that tensions would rise.

He said: “I’m a very competitive person, and you can’t always judge a book by its cover. I ate my hat a couple of times.”

The series, filmed months earlier, has already been teased as one of the most dramatic yet, with clashes involving cast members including Gemma Collins and Jimmy Bullard.

It also comes after Beverley later revealed she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer, undergoing surgery in March.
