Prince William and Prince Harry could reportedly be headed for "peace talks" ahead of the Duke's 40th birthday on September 15.

The Duke of Sussex previously celebrated his 30th birthday with a party hosted by the Princess of Wales at her 22-room apartment at Kensington Palace.

Aside from his strained relationship with Prince William, the 39-year-old is said to "miss" his sister-in-law and is said to be hoping to "catch up with her and see how everything is".

Speaking to OK!, an expert said: "With Harry’s birthday fast approaching, he has been speaking about maybe reaching out to Kate because it's on milestones like this when he really misses her.

"She helped plan his 30th birthday and he feels bad that she won’t be involved and would love to catch up with her and see how everything is."

The source added: "But he knows that will never happen because Kate would never go behind William’s back and she will stay loyal to the royals. It would be a complete shock if they had peace talks but Harry still feels they all need each other."

According to the source, while Harry is hoping for peace talks, his wife Meghan Markle is said to be feeling sceptical about what can be salvaged.

The source added: "She has her reservations over it because she’s seen how much Harry has been hurt by them but if that’s what he really wanted, then she wouldn’t ban him from speaking to his family.

"They have all said their part and she would like to move on but it’s difficult."

Despite the ongoing tensions with his family, an expert believes that Harry - who was previously known for his party-loving ways - could be set to host a "lavish" party to ring in his 40s.

Royal expert Lydia Alty recently told Express.co.uk: "They will likely throw a lavish party and invite friends over around his birthday. Meghan and Harry have many friends in Hollywood, so it will definitely be a huge bash whatever they do. Who knows, they may even sell inside pictures of the party to the media."

The waring brothers' were reunited earlier this week as they were reportedly both in attendance at their uncle Robert Fellowes' funeral in Norfolk.

Although it was previously thought that Harry would not attend due to security fears, the royal "discreetly" travelled from the US on Tuesday.
