Coronation Street star lands major role away from ITV and declares it 'my greatest honour'

A long-running Coronations Street actor announced his major new role away from the screens on social media.

For the past 21 years, Antony Cotton has been a familiar face on screens as Coronation Street’s beloved character Sean Tully.

He stars as the flamboyant and lovable barman at Rovers Return, who is also father to Dylan Wilson (played by Liam Mccheyne).

Although Cotton will continue to be a permanent fixture in Weatherfield, the actor opened up about his exciting new role away from TV.

On Thursday, the ITV star took to X and revealed that he has joined the Royal British Legion.

Alongside a snap, Cotton announced: “It is with huge pride that I have accepted the position to be President of the St James Royal British Legion @PoppyLegion.

“I look forward to both the changes we can make, and the challenges the role will bring. Working for our Armed Forces is my greatest honour.”

The announcement was met with praise from fans including @WilliamJHAndrew who commented: “This is great to see. I have heard Antony speak before on his admiration, compassion and care for our Military personnel and Veterans. Top news.”

As @Clint__Riley added: “What great news, congratulations.”

Cotton’s public involvement with the British military dates back to 2008.

In 2022, he was awarded an MBE from the late Queen for his services to the British Army, personnel and veterans.

As well as this, the actor also recently unveiled he has been renting out a stunning three-bedroom home on Airbnb, located in Scarborough.

Cotton shared his excitement on Instagram as he showed off photos the property's luxurious interior.

He penned: “Coming soon to Scarborough - a luxury three bedroom, three bathroom townhouse to enjoy, for a break away on the Yorkshire Riviera!”
