Prince Harry said he would always support “his Granny” even after leaving the Royal Family.

The Duke of Sussex, who quit the Royal Firm in 2020 with his wife Meghan Markle, insisted in his book Spare that he would always support Queen Elizabeth II even after “she’s gone”.

His book, that was released just a few months after the late Queen died, revealed Harry’s love for his grandmother as he insisted that his family were not the real reason he left the UK and set up home in America.

In his memoir Spare, Harry wrote: “I’ll forever support my Queen, my Commander in Chief, my Granny. Even after she’s gone.

"My problem has never been with the monarchy, nor the concept of monarchy."

The prince continued: "It’s been with the press and the sick relationship that’s evolved between it and the Palace.

"I love my Mother Country, and I love my family, and I always will. I just wish, at the second-darkest moment of my life, they’d both been there for me. And I believe they’ll look back one day and wish they had too.”

After moving to America in 2020 to get away from reported press intrusion, Prince Harry is believed to have still been in contact with the late Queen despite rifts between him and his brother Prince William.

The late Queen also insisted that Prince Harry was still very much a part of her family despite the fact he was no longer a working royal.

In a statement released at the time Harry quit the Royal Family, the late Queen said: “Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family.

“My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family.

“Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family."

It is believed he remained close to his “granny” up until her death at Balmoral on September 8, 2022.

Harry did not make it in time to say goodbye to the late Queen and arrived at her bedside just hours later where he said his final goodbyes.

The prince then attended her funeral and joined other family members in walking behind her coffin.
