You don't expect celebrities to be envious of other A-listers, but Meghan Markle recently proved that everyone has insecurities.

The Duchess of Sussex said in an interview with Variety dating back to 2022 that she found her chat with Paris Hilton for her podcast Archetypes one of the most difficult of the series.

The mum-of-two said the “Breaking down 'The Bimbo' with Paris Hilton” episode, first released for Spotify in 2022, was a challenging one as it allowed her to confront her own biases and judgement.

The former Suits actress, 43, admitted that the emotions that used to come to her when thinking of heiress Paris were envy and judgement.

Meghan also said that she has done a lot of work to unlearn those kinds of feelings, which she said came naturally, especially when you live in California.

She explained: “I was embarrassed to admit it, but I’ve had a judgement about her that’s based on everything I’ve seen, and I don’t like to come from a place of judgement.

“But I also didn’t grow up pretty.”

She added: “Ultimately, I told her, ‘I’m really sorry that I judged you.’ I wanted her to be safe and comfortable.”

In another episode of her podcast series, in which she spoke to actor and comedian Mindy Kaling, the Duchess said she grew up as "not the pretty one" but as "the smart one".

She said she was an "ugly duckling". Meghan added: "Not conventional beauty - maybe now that would be seen as beautiful. I had massive frizzy curly hair. I had a huge gap in my teeth.

"I was the smart one, forever and ever and ever. And then just sort of grew up. I never had anyone to sit with at lunch.

"I was always a little bit of a loner and really shy. I didn't know where I fit in. So I was like, oh I'll become president of the multicultural club, the president of the sophomore class, of the French club."

The Duchess and comedian bonded over their childhoods. Earlier this year, Meghan sent her a jar of strawberry jam part of her new American Riviera Orchard brand.
