Prince Harry has revealed how he is feeling ahead of his 40th - and shared cute details about his two children.

The Duke of Sussex and his wife Duchess Meghan Markle stepped down from royal duties in 2020 and moved to Montecito in California, American, to raise their two young children.

Since then he has been very limited about the information he has released to the media about Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.

But in a new statement to the BBC he has spoken about them both and talked about how they inspire him.

Prince Harry said: "Whatever the age, my mission is to continue showing up and doing good in the world".

"Becoming a father of two incredibly kind and funny kids has given me a fresh perspective on life, as well as sharpening my focus in all my work," the prince said in a statement released by his spokesperson.

He added: "Being a dad is one of life’s greatest joys and has only made me more driven and more committed to making this world a better place."

The prince plans to celebrate his 40th birthday on Sunday with his family in California. He then is heading off on a break with a group of his closest friends. His statement ended in excitement for the years to come saying “bring on the next decade.”

As part of the fun with his friends the prince is set to tackle the Montecito peak which is part of the Cold Spring Trail in California, just a few miles from the mansion he shares with wife Meghan and their two children.

"The Cold Spring Trail has lots of streams and pools which people regularly take a dip in," said the source. "But there are also lots of snakes and other wildlife to contend with, like large cats.

"Harry and his friends will truly experience the outdoors as they take on one of the long hikes. Let's hope he's taking an experienced guide with him."

Sources close to the Duke reveal that he is looking ahead with excitement, eager to pursue the work he’s most passionate about - from continuing the success of the Invictus Games to promoting The Archewell Foundation around the world.

Prince Harry also announced a new non-fiction series with Netflix this year as part of the Sussexes' multi-year partnership.

Filmed primarily at the US Open Polo Championship in Wellington, Florida, at The USPA National Polo Centre and produced in collaboration with Boardwalk Pictures, the series will offer viewers exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the elite world of professional polo.
