Prince Harry believes that his father, King Charles is denying him automatic police protection in the UK, say reports, and that he holds the "power" to intervene in his ongoing security battle with the government.

When Harry stepped down as a working royal in 2020 to eventually reside in California, America, with his family, he was stripped of his police protection.

The committee deciding on security for royalty and senior public figures, known as Ravec, consequently changed Prince Harry's level of protection when his status changed.

The Daily Mail’s Royal Editor Rebecca English spoke on Palace Confidential: "It is awkward for the King, for His Majesty that his son is suing his government in his court."

Discussing an article in People, Rebecca added: "Prince Harry firmly believes his father has the ability to overrule and to get his security reinstated. The point is repeatedly made that King Charles does not have the power to do that. If he were to interfere it would be a serious constitutional matter."

The Mail on Sunday revealed Harry had decided to press on with his legal battle against the Home Office over his taxpayer-funded security and a two-day hearing will be held at the Court of Appeal in April.

Meanwhile, Royal biographer, Ingrid Seward, described Harry as "tunnel-visioned". Speaking to the Daily Mail, she said: "It's embarrassing to his father on a more personal level, to think that his own son doesn't feel safe in the country in his own homeland."

Ingrid added: "It's not going to help any reconciliation because it will upset the King. But he knows his son and probably realises Harry isn't going to let go."

Harry received full publicly funded protection before stepping back as a working royal and eventually moving to America with his wife Meghan Markle four years ago.

He still receives protection when he returns to Britain in specific circumstances but must give 28 days' notice of his plans.

In an interview with ITV titled 'Tabloids on Trial', Prince Harry mentioned his fears for Meghan Markle and her safety in the UK.

Harry explained: "It’s still dangerous, and all it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff to act on what they have read."

He added: "Whether it’s a knife or acid, whatever it is—and these are things that are of genuine concern for me. It’s one of the reasons why I won’t bring my wife back to this country."

King Charles's youngest son, however, has made multiple visits to London in 2024, including most recently, when he attendedthe funeral of Harry and William's uncle in Norfolk, in August. Lord Fellowes was married to Lady Jane Spencer, Princess Diana’s sister, for more than 40 years. They had three children together and he was uncle to the princes.

Harry attended the memorial service close to the royal Sandringham Estate but the brothers reportedly "kept their distance" at the service and were not seen talking to one another.
