Prince Harry is celebrating his 40th birthday without some of his closest celebrity friends as they give his big day a miss.

According to reports, Harry and his wife Meghan Markle are hosting friends at their Montecito mansion in California this weekend.

The Duke will then reportedly head off for a trip with his friends.

According to The Sun, Harry will go to the mountains for a weekend trip.

But a local flower shop manager has suggested to the outlet that music legend Elton John, who is known to be close to the Sussexes and was a friend of late Diana, Princess of Wales, won't be seeing the Duke for his 40th.

Felipe Sandoval claimed: “Elton always orders orchids in a white container and we are coordinating with them to deliver for Harry’s birthday. He sent the same thing for the Duchess of Sussex’s birthday too.”

It has also been reported that some of Harry's old friends from Eton won't be travelling to see him.

James Corden will also be absent from the celebrations despite his reported strong friendship with Harry.

The actor is in Wales filming the final episode of Gavin and Stacey, which will be aired on Christmas Day.

In a statement to the BBC, Harry said of his upcoming milestone: "Becoming a father of two incredibly kind and funny kids has given me a fresh perspective on life, as well as sharpening my focus in all my work. Being a dad is one of life’s greatest joys and has only made me more driven and more committed to making this world a better place."

He also added: "I was anxious about 30, I'm excited about 40. Whatever the age, my mission is to continue showing up and doing good in the world."

PEOPLE magazine also reports that Harry will be having a "gathering of close friends internationally."
