Ahead of his milestone 40th birthday, Prince Harry has reportedly hired a new press agent in the UK, tasked with boosting the exiled Duke’s popularity in his homeland.

But while the Duke of Sussex has suffered some negative press here in the UK, he can at least console himself with the fact that he’s more popular than his father in the US.

According to a YouGov poll commissioned by The Times, 49 per cent of Americans hold a positive view of Harry, while only 38 per cent feel positively inclined towards King Charles.

However, it’s not all good news, as Harry’s older brother Prince William tops the poll with an impressive 54 per cent of Americans reporting a positive opinion of him.

Harry’s wife Meghan Markle ranked slightly lower than His Majesty the King in the same poll, with 36 per cent of the people questioned saying they had a positive impression of her. The royal who came off worst was Queen Camilla, with a somewhat disappointing 25 per cent of Americans holding a positive view, while 31 per cent felt negatively about her.

Here in the UK, Harry scored fewer points in a similar poll. Here, only 26 per cent of the survey respondents felt positively about him, while King Charles was far more popular, scoring well with about 63 per cent of the randomly-selected sample.

The King’s wife Camilla is also rather more popular in the UK than in the US, with 49 per cent of British people who responded saying they had a positive view of her.

In a promising outcome for the future of the Royal Family, Prince William scored highly in both polls.

Prince Harry issued an upbeat statement to the BBC ahead of his birthday, saying: "I was anxious about 30, I'm excited about 40. Whatever my age, my mission is to continue showing up and doing good in the world.”

He added:"Becoming a father of two incredibly kind and funny kids has given me a fresh perspective on life, as well as sharpening my focus in all my work.

"Being a dad is one of life's greatest joys and has only made me more driven and committed to making this world a better place."

Neither the Duke of Sussex nor his wife have had their birthdays marked by the royal family's official social media channels since 2021, when the Buckingham Palace Instagram account posted pictures of Harry with a balloon emoji to wish him a "very happy birthday".
