Prince Harry could be facing regrets ahead of his 40th birthday, a royal commentator has said.

The Duke of Sussex, who has been living in America with his wife Meghan Markle, 43, and their children Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3, for four years is set to celebrate his big day in California thousands of miles away from the Royal Family.

Although relocating over the pond was a choice actively made by the couple, who blamed press intrusion in the UK as the main reason, Richard Fitzwilliams, a royal commentator, believes that Harry could be experiencing some regrets over his decision to leave his home country.

Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “Exile is often unhappy and can lead to regrets.

"There have been rumours that he has been interested in some sort of royal activity or a partial return to Britain. There seems no foundation for these.”

The royal commentator also said that the prince is experiencing continuous strong rifts with his family, particularly Prince William, after conducting a number of bombshell interviews and releasing his tell-all memoir Spare last year.

Fitzwilliams said: “Their interview with Oprah, the docuseries Harry and Meghan for Netflix and his memoir Spare, as well as the interviews he promoted it with, have led to a deep rift with both King Charles and Prince William and their accusations, especially those involving race, have undoubtedly cost it support.

“A major problem is the fact that Harry and Meghan never say anything positive about the royal family.

"Even recently, with two senior royals seriously ill, interviews on ITV and CBS have been unhelpful.”

It has been confirmed that Prince Harry will not be seeing any members of the Royal Family this weekend for his birthday, with the Duke set to celebrate at his home in Montecito before enjoying a few days away with his closest friends.

Although King Charles is expected to call his youngest son on Sunday, a source has confirmed that Prince William will not be making a call to his brother on the big day.

This comes after sources confirm the brothers are not on speaking terms and are unlikely to heal their rift any time soon.
