BGT sparks ‘fix’ row as contestant revealed to be West End star
Fans questioned fairness after the singer's past roles were revealed.

Britain’s Got Talent has been hit by fresh claims of a “fix” after one contestant wowed judges — only for viewers to discover he’s already an experienced West End performer. Singer Nic Vani received a standing ovation on Saturday night’s ITV show after delivering a powerful rendition of Circle Of Life from The Lion King. Before performing, the father-of-three told the panel: “In my music career, I’ve always been at the back so now it’s time for me to be in the spotlight.”
But shortly after the performance aired, viewers took to social media to question whether the show was giving an unfair advantage to established performers. One user wrote: “Nic vani.. the guy who literally played simba in the lion king.. why are they letting people like this on #bgt??”
It quickly emerged that Nic is no stranger to the stage. He has previously starred in West End productions including The Book Of Mormon and The Lion King, and has also toured as a lead singer with dancer Oti Mabuse.

The revelation sparked debate among fans over whether experienced performers should be allowed to compete on the show.
However, insiders have defended Nic’s appearance, insisting he has spent years working behind the scenes rather than in headline roles.
A source said: “Nic loves performing and has been grafting in musical theatre for decades, but he has always been the swing player waiting in the wings and never the headline West End star.”
They added: “BGT has opened doors for all kinds of stage talent and Nic stepping out of the shadows to show his singing to the world could be the moment to change his luck.”
The show itself has also responded to criticism.
An ITV spokesperson said: “Anyone can apply for Britain’s Got Talent whether they are professional or amateur, irrespective of their experience.”
They continued: “All contestants are auditioned on merit and judged on their performance on the day. Some of the acts appearing on the show may have tasted a level of success in their craft, but are not household names. All enter the contest with the hope of elevating their career to the highest level.”
Despite the backlash, many viewers praised Nic’s performance and backed him to go further in the competition.
One fan wrote: “Nic has a God given talent and is such a beautiful soul. Sometimes the golden buzzers peak far too soon. He really deserves one.”
Another added: “As a massive musical theatre fan I think Nic should of got the golden buzzer he was amazing!!” Others agreed, posting: “How amazing was Nic Vani! Love that song too,” and “He was brilliant!”
Elsewhere in the episode, guest judge Stacey Solomon awarded her golden buzzer to a group of children from Braunstone Community Primary School.
The act began as a traditional performance of All Things Bright And Beautiful before taking an unexpected turn, as a child dressed as a teacher took over conducting — before more children flooded the stage for a pop remix and dance routine that had the judges on their feet.
