Donald Trump sparked concern after suggesting he could successfully run for president in Venezuela. During a White House press conference, where he was expected to focus on the rescue of a downed Air Force pilot in Iran, Trump instead turned his attention to Venezuelan politics. The 79-year-old even offered to learn Spanish and claimed that he was "polling higher than anybody has ever polled in Venezuela".

He said: "The people of Venezuela, they say, if I ran for president of Venezuela, I'm polling higher than anybody has ever polled in Venezuela, so after I'm finished with this, I can go to Venezuela. I will quickly learn Spanish. It won't take too long. I'm good at language and I will go to Venezuela. I'm going to run for president. But we're very happy with the president-elect that we have right now."

Trump mentioned Venezuela on several occasions during the press conference, leaving viewers concerned.

Reposting a video of the press conference on X, one person wrote: "THIS. DUDE. IS. F****NG. GONE. I’m not being hyperbolic. He’s mentally GONE."

Another agreed: "And they said Biden wasn't all there. At least he wasn't a national f****ng embarrassment."

A third fumed: "And Congress doesn’t even bat an eye. They are just fine with this. Pathetic," while another echoed: "Good at language? All of his speeches involve him just repeating the same tired nonsense that he always spews. Rigged elections, Joe Biden being to blame for everything, dismissing anyone as 'fake news' if they aren’t Fox News, etc."

It comes as Trump was branded "delusional" by the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), as the US President's deadline to open the Strait of Hormuz nears.

Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for the IRGC’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said "the rude rhetoric, arrogance and baseless threats of the delusional US president, arising from the deadlock he faces and aimed at justifying the repeated defeats of the US military" will not stop Iran from fighting.

He added that more attacks on non-civilian targets would prompt a "more forceful" response from the Iranian regime.

Trump has given Iran until 8pm ET on Tuesday (1am BST on Wednesday) to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to all vessels. Should the regime not comply, the US leader has vowed to rain hell on Iran, targeting infrastructure including bridges and power plants.
