News surrounding the paperback edition of Prince Harry's Spare memoir has sparked speculation of a royal reconciliation.

Richard Eden, a columnist at the Daily Mail, said in his weekly newsletter that there were two pieces of "good news" for King Charles from Harry this week.

The paperback edition of Spare comes out in October but, to the surprise and relief of many royal watchers, the publisher Penguin Random House revealed that the "new edition will not feature any fresh material".

Mr Eden wrote: "It is a surprise because most publishers would want an updated chapter with new revelations in order to get a second bite of the cherry and boost sales."

In another welcome and "significant" boost for King Charles, who is currently enjoying a holiday in Balmoral, Harry is not planning to give any new interviews to promote the new paperback edition of his hit memoir, the columnist claimed.

Mr Eden continued: "It wasn’t just the contents of Spare that caused such anguish when the book was published last year. It was the succession of interviews that Harry gave to publicise it.

"It's all further evidence of what royal sources have been telling me for some time: that he is increasingly desperate for a reconciliation with his father."

One source told the columnist: "There is no doubt that Harry wants to patch things up with the King."

This comes amid reports this week that Charles is also hoping to mend his relationship with his son.

It was reported that the King is said to be mulling over an attempted reconciliation with Prince Harry after "seeking advice" from several religious leaders.

Charles is reported to "have faith" that his youngest "will return" to the royal fold, after a tumultuous period between them.

A source told the Daily Mail: "Charles misses his son. He still loves Harry and wants him back for personal reasons – regardless that he and Meghan do not [want to] return to royal life. Harry will always be Charles's much-loved son."

The source added: "He has faith that Harry could return. He misses the bond they once had, and the door will always remain open to him and his family. He does not want years of discord and disharmony clouding his reign."
