Queen Camilla has taken on a new role as the Patron of The Rifleman's Association, a position which had not been previously held by a member of the Royal Family before.

The Queen - who had already taken on the role of Colonel-in-Chief of The Rifles, an infantry regiment of the British Army, from Prince Philip in 2020 - is now also the figurehead of its association.

The Rifles Association allows serving soldiers, veterans and their families to remain part of the regimental family, offering friendship, support and help.

Her role as the Patron of The Rifleman’s Association pays tribute to her father, Major Bruce Shand, who was awarded the Military Cross in 1940, during the retreat to Dunkirk, and again in 1942 for his efforts in North Africa.

Members of the Rifles, as well as royal fans, have welcomed the news.
