Coronation Street star Helen Worth new role 'sealed' as next step will surprise fans

Coronation Street actress Helen Worth recently announced she is quitting the ITV soap after 50 years on the Cobbles.

Helen Worth's next steps have been teased following her Coronation Street exit announcement. The actress, 73, revealed she will be stepping down from her role as Gail Platt at the end of this year, bidding farewell to the Cobbles after five decades.

Following news of Helen's upcoming exit, PR expert Jake Holyoak spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about what Helen could do next.

Jake said: "Helen, a stalwart of the cobbled streets, is bidding adieu to Weatherfield, and naturally, the rumour mill's buzzing with possibilities. I'm a Celebrity and Strictly Come Dancing are obvious choices, but let's think outside the box, shall we?"

Jake admitted he isn't convinced this will happen, however, claimed it would be "great to see a bit more variation in showbiz stars next steps" as stars often choose "obvious routes".

He added: "Maybe Helen hosting her own lifestyle show, dishing out gardening tips or whipping up recipes from her character's beloved Betty's Hot Pot. It's all about showcasing her range and surprising her fans."

Half a century after she first walked onto the cobbles, viewers will see Helen bid farewell to Weatherfield in a major storyline for the Platt family.

Speaking about her upcoming departure, Helen began: "This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world.

"I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding.

She added: " I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in and week out, and to have workewith fantastic actors, directors, and a brilliant crew. The past 50 years have flown by and I don't think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet."

Helen made her first appearance as Gail in July 1974. She has been at the centre of some of the most memorable storylines, from her ill-fated marriage to Richard Hillman (Brian Capron) to being arrested for Joe McIntrye's (Reece Dinsdale) murder.

The soap stalwart will begin filming her exit story next month, with the emotional scenes airing at the end of the year.
