ITV Coronation Street's Ken Barlow turns unwitting matchmaker for Steve McDonald
Coronation Street's Steve McDonald has been single since his wife Tracy Barlow left him but spoilers released for next week indicate his love life may be looking up.
Corrie: Tracy wants to get back together with Steve
Coronation Street's Steve McDonald (played by Simon Gregson) has been wallowing in his own misery since his wife Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) left him for a new life in Spain with former footballer Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn). His attempts to dip his toe back into the dating pool have proved unsuccessful.
However official spoilers released by ITV for next week's episodes show that his romantic luck may be about to change - thanks to his father-in-law Ken Barlow (William Roache). He needs specialist care following his horror fall and his family assures him it will be taken care of.
Despite their assertions though, in an attempt to cut corners and save cash, Steve hires Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) and lies to Ken that she is a qualified carer hired through an agency. It isn't long before Cassie reveals the truth to Ken telling him she has no training and only stepped in to help out and save the family some money.
Although Ken is furious at being lied to Cassie wins him around explaining that she was honest with Steve from the off and never pretended to have any qualifications. With Ken prepared to give her a chance she arrives for work at No.1, and Steve relishes informing her her first task is to cut Ken’s toenails.
Despite this rather inauspicious start Ken and Cassie hit it off and Ken suggests they go out for a spot of lunch leading Steve to seethe. This doesn't go unnoticed by his daughter Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) who is highly amused at how much Cassie gets under her dad’s skin.
She suggests to him there’s a spark between them and he’s in denial about his attraction to her.
Steve firmly denies there is any spark between them which only adds to Amy's amusement.
He has reason to be wary as Cassie previously rejected him during the Rovers' Return speed dating night.
However, actress Claire, who plays Cassie, admits she would love to see the two of them get together.

"We saw the spark between them at the speed dating and it didn’t get off the ground," she admitted.
