Douglas is Cancelled, a fresh comedy-drama from ITV, features Hugh Bonneville as newsreader Douglas Bellowes, who has been the face of war, crisis and death for over three decades.

However, after cracking an ill-judged joke at a wedding, Douglas, considered a national treasure, goes viral and ends up being cancelled. Alongside Downton Abbey's Hugh Bonneville are Doctor Who stars Karen Gillan, known for her role as Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Alex Kingston, as well as Nick Mohammed, famous for his role as Nate Shelley on Ted Lasso.

The cast list also includes Wolf Hall's Simon Russell Beale and The Crown's Ben Miles. Madeleine Power, recognised for her role in The Last Kingdom, plays Claudia Bellowes.

When asked about what attracted him to Douglas Is Cancelled, Hugh said: "As always, the script. It constantly surprised me with its changes of direction and tone."

"It made me roar with laughter but, as with all good satire, the laughter gradually turned to ice as the questions raised by the comedy became more stark... harsher. Some of the twists and turns are toe-curlingly funny, but by the end, the lights have gone out, the fun has evaporated and we're into dark territory," reports the Mirror.

"To read the whole thing in one sitting was as riveting as it was uncomfortable. Hopefully, the audience will have a similar rollercoaster experience. As an actor, I also found the dynamic between the central quartet intoxicating. It's not often you recognise a terrific drama straight off the page but this was certainly one for me."
