Coronation Street's Wendi Peters, famed for her role as Cilla Battersby-Brown, has hinted at a potential return to the popular ITV soap.

The actress, who portrayed the character from 2003 to 2007 and made a brief comeback in 2014, admitted that her character "was a nightmare".

Currently starring in the musical Sister Act, Wendi revealed she still gets recognised for her role on the cobbles.

In an article for Woman's Weekly, she reflected on her time on Corrie, saying: "My gosh, she was a nightmare! But I had such fun playing her, and I'm extremely grateful because there aren't many soap characters that are still remembered all those years later. I'd never say never about going back."

She also shared stories about her mischievous dog, Dorothy, who has a habit of opening the dishwasher and giving the dirty dishes a "pre-wash".

Despite seeking advice from TV programmes to curb Dorothy's antics, Wendi confessed that at eight years old, there's "no way I'm going to change her."

Having previously vowed not to tour again, Wendi is now excited to hit the road with Dorothy by her side.

She concluded: "I had said I wasn't going to go on the road again - I'd had enough of living out of a suitcase and being away, but when I was offered Sister Act,

"I couldn't refuse. It's a great show and so much fun - you can't leave the theatre without having had a brilliant time."

Meanwhile, Wendi is said to be head over heels for her new beau, Gareth Wale.

It seems the couple have been an item for several months now, with Wendi reportedly introducing the carpet fitter to her family.

The 56-year-old actress has shared a series of romantic moments with her new partner on social media, including a cosy getaway to the Cotswolds over Easter.

Wendi will continue to grace the stage in Sister Act until October 5.
