EastEnders icon Danny Dyer has cheekily hinted at a dramatic comeback to the BBC series as the supposedly deceased Mick Carter but with an intriguing catch.

Mick, the beloved Queen Vic publican played by Danny, vanished on the frosty evening of Christmas Day 2022 after heroically plunging into the icy waters to rescue his former flame Linda Carter (portrayed by Kellie Bright) and the heavily pregnant Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks).

Despite Linda and Janine emerging safely onto the beach's sands, Mick was tragically not accounted for, leading the authorities to deduce he perished in the depths, his body never recovered.

In an ill-fated twist of fate, the teenage sweethearts Mick and Linda had just rekindled their affection mere hours before the disaster struck, sealing their long-standing romance without the opportunity for a future together.

In the aftermath of the perplexing tragedy, Linda's world crumbled, finding solace only at the bottom of a bottle, mourning her heart's companion, and expecting little likelihood of Mick's miraculous return.

However, whispers now abound that Mick might grace the Square once more during the much-anticipated 40th-anniversary celebrations of EastEnders in February 2025, reports the Daily Star.

In an exclusive chat with Heat Magazine, Danny, aged 46, teased his potential re-emergence in Walford as Mick Carter following a memorable nine-year portrayal, albeit in a spectral form limited to the flights of Linda's imagination.

The actor divulged to the publication, "Everyone is asking when I'm going back to EastEnders, which is very interesting to me."

The star of The Football Factory expressed flattery over fans' clamour for his return and mused: "If there's no closure there, then maybe I would come back for a dream sequence."

"I don't think Mick could just rock up covered in seaweed! I think if they did it right, with the 40th anniversary coming up, if they came up with an idea of maybe Linda drunk or hallucinating, then I would come back and do some scenes with her."

Speaking about his co-star, Danny added: "You know, because I do miss Kellie, and I think maybe that would stop people asking me when I'm f****** going back! ".
