BBC slammed for ‘disgraceful’ TV Election debate as viewers threaten to complain to Ofcom

The audience who attended BBC's television election debate has been accused of being "biased" after anti-Brexit chat was welcomed with a huge round of applause.

BBC Election Debate audience member shakes head at Farage

The BBC has found itself in hot water thanks to its audience at last night's TV election debate.

On Friday BBC televised a seven-way debate as representatives from the major parties in Great Britain hashed it out ahead of the general election on July 4.

During the heated debate which Nigel Farage won, Stephen Flynn from the SNP claimed Brexit has increased food prices and proved "an unmitigated disaster for the economy".

After declaring his point, the audience, selected by independent pollsters Savanta, reacted by erupting into applause.

Based on the strong reaction to Stephen's comment, furious social media users stormed to X, formally Twitter to claim the audience was "biased" and begged Ofcom to intervene.

One angry viewer @KateStewart22 shared: "Disgusted by the leftism of this whole debate."

As a second @AllisonPearson wrote: "Another totally biased @BBCNews audience," and @DeanVotesReform claimed: "What a surprise that the BBC has invited in a majority left-wing audience into the studio."

Viewer @DizziPixxi sarcastically penned: "BBC #ElectionDebate: Audience randomly chosen, yeah right, we believe you."

While others who had tuned in to watch the debate went as far as to take it to Ofcom.

Like @Whisky_And1 who fumed: "@Ofcom that #BBCdebate audience was no more even than fly in the air. When will you take action against this biased organisation!"

And user @KateStewart22 echoed: "Dear @OFCOM would you please investigate who chose the #BBCDebate audience this evening. The BBC is funded by the public yet the demographic of the audience was overtly leftist and biased. ALL our viewpoints should have been represented in this critical debate. Why weren't they?"

However, not everyone accused the BBC of choosing a biased audience.

One viewer @Flowerbomb212 pointed out: "@Ofcom so basically because the audience don’t clap when you’d expect them to, they’re left wing remainers? Have a word with yourself."
