ITV viewers all make same complaint seconds into General Election debate

As viewers across the country tuned in to watch the debate between Rishi Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer on ITV, some couldn't help but notice the set looked rather familiar.

Sunak v Starmer TV debate

On ITV tonight, Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer are battling it out in a debate that will see them tackle everything from healthcare to education.

While many people were paying close attention to the politicians' arguments as they were grilled on various important topics, some eagle-eyed viewers couldn't help but be distracted by the set ITV had chosen.

As the camera panned around to reveal the large studio, audiences could see the two men standing in front of luminescent podiums within a blue, lit-up square.

Around them were more straight lines and angles, which came together to create a boxed-in effect.

As moderator Julie Etchingham kicked things off, many fans quickly took to social media to express their amazement at seeing a set that looked so eerily similar to another show on ITV.

Sharing their thoughts on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, viewers both complained and joked about how similar the set looked to British game show The Cube.

The Cube, which offered contestants the chance to win a top prize of £250,000 by completing challenges from within a 4m × 4m × 4m perspex cube, was hosted by former This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield between 2009 and 2021.

"Ooh. I love the set. It’s like they’re about to make them do THE CUBE," one person remarked. (sic)

Another quipped: "Nice to see ITV recycling by staging this on the set of gameshow The Cube." (sic)

One more joked: "Yes, but when does The Cube come out and when do they start throwing small red balls into glass boxes." (sic)

"Why don’t they just go into The Cube and we could get this nailed in 15mins?" a fifth person joined in. (sic)

"Waiting for Phillip Schofield to come out and announce the next game for #TheCube," yet another person teased. (sic)

"Have ITV simply reused the set from The Cube...?" another person asked, sharing a picture of the uncannily similar-looking set from The Cube. (sic)
