Eamonn Holmes thanks GB News viewers for support

Eamonn Holmes sparked some criticism as he made his eagerly awaited return to GB News on Tuesday morning. The presenter, 64, spoke out for the first time after his divorce from Ruth Langsford was announced.

The Belfast-born host thanked fans for their support amidst his separation, adding: "Your support for both of us is very much appreciated."

Eamonn kept the statement brief and brushed over his split while discussing the newspaper front pages of the day. However, he did not hold back when reporting the other stories, leaving some viewers to describe him as "irritable" and "rude".

He mocked Prime Minister Rishi Sunak after he was seen playing football. Comparing him to a school headteacher, he said: "Can this man get any more boring than he is?

"This business of conscription, this business of maths. He just would have made a perfect awful head teacher, wouldn't he? Oh, Mr Sunak's in today, he's a right bore, he is."

He also got into numerous disagreements with co-host Isabel Webster, 41.

Many viewers took to the comments to share their thoughts. One said: "Crikey Eamonn you are in a stinking mood this morning. Much as I admire you I kind of feel for Isabel today, give her a break eh.”

Another added: “Someone needs to take irritable Eamonn – he's a nightmare today!”

A third fumed: “He is making it into car crash TV. Don’t know how Isabel is coping with him. He is being so rude to everybody. Does this have to go on for another two hours?”

Another shared: "Love the show Eamonn & Isobel however one of you may have to take a ‘Chill Pill’…"

And a fifth supported: "I’m pleased Eamonn is back. He says his take on things. He says it like it is."

Earlier in the Breakfast show, Eamonn detailed his "emotional" weekend after Manchester United's FA Cup triumph against Manchester City on Saturday. Man Utd's 2-1 win came just hours before news of his split broke.

Eamonn told his co-host Isabel Webster on Tuesday: "The weekend was just marvellous, marvellous, marvellous. The FA Cup final was one of the greatest cup finals there has ever been. It got me there. Yeah, it's emotional."

Eamonn and Ruth have been married since 2010 and have been together for almost 30 years. They share one son, Jack, who was born in 2002.

Eamonn also has three children, Declan, Rebecca and Niall, from his first marriage to Gabrielle.
