Eamonn Holmes dealt fresh blow as he 'loses custody of dog' in Ruth Langsford split

is facing further heartache as he is set to lose custody of his beloved dog, Maggie. The presenter, 64, and , 64, recently announced

A spokesperson for the couple told The Sun that their work commitments had taken them "in different directions". In her first post since news of their breakup was made public, Ruth shared a video as she took Collie cross Maggie for a walk. 

"Enjoying the little bit of sunshine we got today! Maggie!," she wrote in the caption. It has now been reported that the former couple are having "difficult conversations" about who will keep their pet pooch.

"Maggie is like a daughter to them. They dote on her. But she’s getting on and they know she needs stability," a source told The Sun. "It’s a case of who can give her that. Eamonn adores her and Maggie’s been such a support during his health woes."

They added: "The thought of giving her up is heartbreaking to him. But if Ruth is able to get out and about and walk her more, then it may well be that she gets Maggie in the split.

The former stars are reportedly avoiding getting lawyers involved, likening their situation to Ant McPartlin and Lisa Armstrong when they rowed over their dog Hurley during their divorce.

Earlier this year, Eamonn spoke about the "unconditional love" he feels for Maggie and the happiness she brings to his life. He said: "I genuinely have never experienced affection like it."

Paying tribute to Maggie in 2019, the Northern Irish broadcaster wrote: "Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened."

He shared the post with the caption: "It took me too long in life to realise the truth of this… Now I believe it with my whole heart."

Eamonn, who shares 22-year-old son Jack with Ruth, returned to on Tuesday (May 28) for the first time since their divorce was announced. from Ruth during the show as he thanked fans for their support.

In his brief statement, he said: "Just before we move on we'd just like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation. Your support for both of us is very much appreciated."
