GMB: Susanna Reid told to 'move on' from Labour MP interview

Susanna Reid was forced to put a stop to an interview on today's episode of Good Morning Britain.

The presenter was joined by co-star Ed Balls as they welcomed on Labour MP Jonathan Ashworth. They bashed Labour's policies as Mr Ashworth kept making digs at rival party, the Conservatives.

Initially the conversation began over people calling for the two-child benefit cap to be lifted, before the politician explained that the Labour party would not put rent prices and mortgages up "because politicians play fast and loose with the public's finances".

He said: "That's the difference with us. We saw what happened with Liz Truss and the Conservatives."

But Suanna was less than impressed as she said: "Yeah, ok, well you've repeated that point." Mr Ashworth ignored her and carried on with his bashing of the Tories.

Eventually the GMB host was forced to step in, as she held her hand up and admitted that ITV bosses were in her ear. She said: "Ok, we're being shouted at to let you go, Jonathan Ashworth."

She added: "But it is just extraordinary, I think, to Labour voters, when it's been described as 'obscene, inhumane, punative vicious and heinous'. Are you, the leader and deputy leader that you are comparing it to Liz Truss?

"This would seem to us to be a core Labour policy, but you said it's going to stay and you're going to be crystal clear about that. Thank you very much indeed." Without giving the politician a chance to respond, she moved the show along.

Meanwhile, fans on Twitter (now known as X) bashed the interview as they branded it a "car crash". One social media user wrote: "Ashworth is a Car Crash ! The green deal Labour are offering will cost the household £££££ Money , it wont pay off for years . So for 5 years your energy bills will increase ! #gmb."

Another added: "Ashworth is a Car Crash ! The green deal Labour are offering will cost the household £££££ Money , it wont pay off for years . So for 5 years your energy bills will increase ! #gmb."

Meanwhile, someone else criticised Susanna for the way that she handled the politican. They wrote: "REID says to Ashworth "We're being shouted at to let you go... and then proceeds to take a FULL MINUTE to pile on a list of last-minute accusations before CUTTING HIM OFF ! (Very unprofessional) #GMB."
And others praised the presenters for their work, with one writing: "Well done, Ed and Susanna, for showing Ashworth up for the absolute robotic moron he is. #gmb."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV and ITVX from 6am
