ITV viewers issue same complaint as Rishi Sunak insists he was deprived of Sky TV

Rishi Sunak has left ITV viewers all saying the same thing after insisting he was deprived of Sky TV as a child during an interview about the upcoming General Election which aired this evening.

During the one-to-one interview, which was conducted by broadcaster Paul Brand, Sunak was asked if he'd ever gone without something in his life.

The nation's leader, who has an estimated personal fortune with his wife Akshata Murty of £651m, confidently replied: "Yes, I mean, my family emigrated here with very little. And that's how I was raised. I was raised with the values of hard work."

His father was a GP and his mother ran a pharmacy while he was growing up. He attended the prestigious Winchester College before being educated at Lincoln College, in Oxford. He later earned an MBA from Stanford University in America.

When asked what he had to sacrifice as a child, the Prime Minister said: "Lots of things."

When the journalist asked to give him an example, Sunak responded: "All sorts of things like lots of people... There'll be all sorts of things that I would've wanted as a kid that I couldn't have.

"Famously, Sky TV, so that was something that we never had growing up actually."

While Sunak explained he was fortunate his parents had "good jobs" while he was growing up, he stressed: "But the reality of the situation is my grandparents emigrated to this country, with very little and in three generations, I'm sitting here talking to you as prime minister."

The ITV interview, which aired on Wednesday evening at 7pm, did not sit well with many viewers watching at home who took to Twitter to air their thoughts.

One viewer shared a picture of Winchester College and claimed: "This is Winchester College. They charge £49,152 per annum for boarding pupils. Rishi Sunak is a former pupil. But never mind all that. The poor wee lamb went without Sky TV as a youngster."

A second added: "#theleaderinterviews Sunak struggling to think of something he was ‘deprived’ of as a child and saying “Sky TV” is reminiscent of Theresa May’s ‘naughty’ moment, running through fields of grain, except I believe that really was true for her and I respect and identify with that."

A third remarked: "Interviewer: “What were you going without as a child?” Rishi Sunak: “Haha lots of things, like Sky TV”. Yeah babes going without Sky TV is OBVIOUSLY the same as children starving & parents being unable to heat their homes." (sic)

Other viewers were not engaged by the interview, with Wayne writing: "I have rain to watch fall, far more entertaining."

A Tory supporter wrote as the interview aired: "The majority of UK citizens stand with you and are behind you let's go!"
