BBC Breakfast: Sarah Campbell links to Jon Kay hosting in Portsmouth

It was all change on BBC Breakfast on Wednesday as regular presenter Sally Nugent was replaced by Sarah Campbell for a third day this week.

Sally, 52, usually hosts the morning programme from Monday to Wednesday with co-host Jon Kay, but both were missing on the iconic red sofa on Wednesday morning.

Jon, 54, was still on the show but was presenting live from Portsmouth for the National Commemoration for the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

As the programme aired, he took to X, formerly known as Twitter to confirm: "We’re broadcasting #BBCBreakfast live from sunny Southsea Common which today hosts the national commemoration for the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

"This very special event hosted by Dame Helen Mirren is on BBC One later this morning," he concluded with a picture of the very special location.

Main weather presenter Carol Kirkwood was also presenting live from Portsmouth as Sarah held it down in the studio.

She interviewed guests Reverend Richard Coles and Secretary State for Energy Security Claire Coutinho as well as delivering the latest news.

Sally sparked concern she had quit BBC Breakfast after being absent this week and that was heightened after she anchored the BBC News at One from Manchester on Monday afternoon.

Fans at home were concerned about Sally potentially leaving the show and flocked to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their grievances.

One concerned viewer asked on X: "Oh has Sally left Breakfast?" Another person expressed: "Good use of the BBC breakfast sofa! Will miss @sallynugent on breakfast."

While a third added: "Most excellent but does this disrupt my early morning viewing when I expect to see you and @sallynugent on the sofa."

Responding to the concerns, Jon took to X to quash the rumours as he simply wrote: "Nooooooooo!!!!!"

BBC Breakfast airs from 6am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
