Beat the Chasers returned to ITV on Tuesday (June 4) as four celebrities attempted to win some money for charity.

Bradley Walsh was joined by the stars of The Chase; Darragh Ennis, Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan, Mark Labbett and Shaun Wallace.

Chris McCausland was the third famous face to go head-to-head with the Chasers, putting on an impressive performance in the first round.

As the Chasers were handing out their offers, the spotlight landed on Anne. The Governess quipped: "Hello Chris. You've been on The Chase, haven't you?"

The 46-year-old recalled going up against Anne when he previously appeared on the ITV quiz show. Anne confessed: "And you beat me, didn't you?" Not holding back, the comedian exclaimed: "I wiped the floor with you, Anne!"

The 65-year-old was hoping history wouldn't repeat itself as she hit back: "Well you did really well on The Chase which suggests that you're clever. And you're back here, which suggests that you're stupid."

Chris made a bold move as he chose the chasers' biggest offer, opting for five of them, with a hefty sum of £50,000.

Explaining his tactic, the actor told Bradley: "Every single one of them is far cleverer than I am, but I've seen Jenny on this a lot and she doesn't seem to have any difficult areas of quizzing, so I think the more they can slow her down, the better."

Turning to his co-star, Darragh quipped: "That's a bold strategy!" Unfortunately for Chris, he ran out of time before the chasers, who had 22 seconds left on their clock.

Chris didn't walk away empty-handed, however, as the show gave him £1,000 for The Whitechapel Centre - the leading homeless and housing charity for the Liverpool region.

Following Chris's appearance, viewers flocked to social media as they said the same thing. One wrote: "I love Chris McCausland so much. Lovely guy and so funny." Another declared: "Chris McCausland a brilliant human being!"

A third agreed: "Chris McCausland seems like a great guy." Like Chris, England footballer Mary Earps and Pointless presenter Alexander Armstrong failed to beat the professional quizzers.

However, comic and actor Nish Kumar walked away with an impressive £25,000.
