Prince William and Kate 'might move to royal lodge' says host

Prince Andrew has been fighting to hold onto Royal Lodge but could lose it if he doesn't take big steps to keep it modern, says one royal expert.

Last year, King Charles agreed that Andrew could stay in the royal residence as long as he took care of the maintenance.

Express.co.uk revealed in May that Andrew will fork out £20,000 on an external paint job and repairs for his residence and that he is determined to stay put.

Andrew has been living in the 30-room mansion since 2004, which was left to him when the Queen Mother passed away in 2002.

He doesn’t own the building, but his name is on the lease with the “landlord” the Crown Estate.

Andrew and Sarah Ferguson are the 'happiest divorced couple,' says Mr Lownie (Image: Getty)

Author Andrew Lownie, who is working on a joint biography about Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s marriage, told Daily Express US the Duke of York is putting in his resources.

He said: “Andrew has trust income so he could repair, and it appears he is doing so.”

It’s believed, Charles would like Andrew to vacate the premises, so Prince William and Princess Kate can move into the home. The Waleses have three small children, and it’s predicted they are going to outgrow their current home — Adelaide Cottage in Windsor — sooner rather than later.

Lownie said: “The pressure Charles can bring is for Andrew to lose his security which is expensive.”

Andrew's daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, recently attended the Buckingham Palace Garden Party, hosted by their cousin Prince William.

There’s been talk about Beatrice joining Charles for the Japanese State Visit, which has yet to be confirmed. Mr Lownie believes Andrew would be happy for this to be the case.

"I think younger royals may be called in and Andrew is keen for her (Beatrice) to have a higher royal role," he said.
