Daisy May Cooper has suffered a huge blow as the BBC has axed her critically beloved show Rain Dogs after just one season.

The series, which she’d hoped would boost her career overseas after premiering in the United States on HBO, was also cancelled there.

Throughout the eight episodes, Cooper starred as Costello Jones, a struggling single mum to her 10-year-old daughter Iris (played by Fleur Tashjian).

However, despite the acclaim from critics, the drama will not be returning to screens for a second instalment.

A source said: “It’s disappointing for Daisy as Rain Dogs was a good opportunity to make some inroads in the US.

“But unfortunately, it didn’t rate too well on both sides of the pond. So the production company behind it, Sid Gentle, agreed with Cash it was time to move on.

“Some critics praised the writing but ultimately it just didn’t pull up any trees,” the source added to The Sun.

Despite Rain Dogs’ end, it seems the BBC wants to continue their relationship with Cooper through other projects.

Am I Being Unreasonable?,which stars the 37-year-old, was renewed for a second season in 2022 in both the UK and the US on Hulu.

Cooper made her BBC debut in 2017 with This Country, which she also co-wrote and starred in alongside her younger brother, Charlie.

The series instantly shot her into the limelight, with a loyal following of fans as it aired on screens until 2020.

Although the actress has suffered a major blow, she has a new reason to celebrate after welcoming her third child on Thursday.

Alongside a sweet photo of her son on Instagram, she wrote: “Welcome to the world little Benji, ya nutter. Born 06/06/24.” (sic)
