Sweet Tooth is back on Netflix and attention has already turned to the future of the DC comic book adaptation.

Subscribers had been waiting for more than a year for the drama’s return and finally, the wait is over with all eight episodes dropping on Thursday, June 6.

Following the brutal attack from General Abbot (played by Neil Sandilands), Gus (Christian Convery) was in a bad way but thankfully was on the end by the season two finale.

This time around, Gus, along with his friends Bear (Stefania LaVie Owen), Jepperd (Nonso Anozie) and Wendy (Naledi Murray) are travelling to Alaska to find Gus’ mum Birdie (Amy Seimetz).

Of course, there will be some friendly faces they’ll meet along the way as well as some dangerous obstacles to face as rival Helen Zhang (Rosalind Chao) is determined to eradicate hybrids.

Will there be a Sweet Tooth season 4?

Sweet Tooth first made its debut on Netflix in June 2021, bringing Jeff Lemire’s popular DC comic book series to life and instantly it found its audience.

So it was unsurprising when the show was quickly renewed for a second outing which also went down a storm and remained in Netflix’s global top 10 for four weeks.

Once again, the streamer gave the green light for another season to be made which came out in full on June 6, and is expected to attract big numbers.

However, despite its clear popularity, Sweet Tooth will not be returning for a fourth season with series three announced as its last.

But this isn’t because Sweet Tooth didn’t receive the ratings needed to continue.

It was actually the choice of the drama’s creators to end the show after three outings as this had been the plan from the beginning.

Showrunner Jim Mickle explained: “In a lot of ways, it’s exactly the story that I imagined we would tell, and in a lot of ways, it takes on its own life.

“At the beginning, I think you set out to tell these landmark pieces of Gus’ story and the big pieces of the comic book, but the beauty of long-form storytelling and Gus’ journey over 24 episodes is the characters themselves tell you what they want to be.”

Why did Harry and Meghan make a Netflix series about their life?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have found themselves at the centre of public attention since they took a step back from senior royal duties in 2020.

In a trailer for the Netflix series about them, Prince Harry told viewers that “no one sees what’s happening behind closed doors” in a reference to how their lives may differ from what the public think about the couple. Meghan adds: “When the stakes are this high, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?”.

Reports suggested the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could receive up to $100 million for making the show, although this has been disputed and the true figure is unknown.

“The crew and cast bring so much depth and point of view to who the characters are and where they’ve come from and where they’re going.”

Convery and the rest of the main cast are back for the third season with some newcomers also introduced.

The Expanse star Cara Gee is joining as mum Siana to hybrid child Nuka, portrayed by Ayazhan Dalabayeva.

Actress Chao, who is known for Mulan and Better Things, has been upped to series regular as Zhang, while Pet Sematary star Amy Seimetz will also be featured more heavily as Gus’ mum Birdie.

Sweet Tooth is available to watch on Netflix.
