King Charles and Camilla to skip wedding after big row: 'Haven't forgotten what happened'

Royal experts claim that tensions have been simmering behind the scenes for years after Queen Camilla was left offended back in 2004.

King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to skip a highly anticipated wedding, and a royal expert believes this could be because of "tensions" between Camilla and the family of the young couple.

Hugh, Duke of Westminster, and Olivia Henson will tie the knot on Friday during a ceremony at Chester Cathedral.

The King and Queen are yet to confirm whether or not they will be attending the event.

The couple previously turned down an invitation to attend the wedding of the duke's sister, Lady Tamara Grosvenor, in 2004.

Camilla, known as Parker Bowles at the time, would have had to sit away from Charles because they were not yet married.

Richard Eden of the MailOnline cites a source who says this may have left a mark on the Queen.

The source said: "Their Majesties have not forgotten what happened at the wedding of Hugh's sister. There is still a lot of tension that exists."

However, another reason for their absence could be because the King and Queen are in Normandy the day before for D-Day events.

Royal biographer Penny Junor wrote in her 2017 book 'The Duchess: The Untold Story' that there was tension between Camilla and Emilie van Cutsem, the mother of the groom.

She added: "[There was] was a rift between the Prince of Wales and his oldest friends the van Cutsems, who thoroughly disapproved of (Press Secretary) Mark Bolland’s influence and were not enamoured by Camilla.

“The feeling was entirely mutual."

But royal expert Sarah Bradford said at the time that Queen Elizabeth II was not pleased with how the situation was dealt with.

She said: "Her Majesty is a stickler for protocol. It would be inappropriate for Mrs Parker Bowles to sit beside Prince Charles since she has no official standing".

Prince Harry has reportedly rejected an invitation to the wedding as both sides understood the issues between the Duke and his brother, Prince William, could make his attendance difficult.

Royal author Tom Quinn told The Mirror that Harry "couldn't bear" the thought of seeing his brother.

He said: "Harry's decision not to attend his old friend Hugh Grosvenor's wedding was probably inevitable once he realised his brother would be there.

"A friend of Harry's said: 'Harry definitely had second thoughts about turning down the invitation to Hugh's wedding but he can’t bear the idea of being in the same building as his brother let alone the same room.

"Harry hates the idea of completely losing touch with his old Etonian and army friends and he was close to Hugh Grosvenor, but attending a wedding at which his brother will be an usher is just history repeating itself in the most painful way.

"Harry felt he should have been invited to be an usher, but once again his brother takes precedence."
