It is reported King Charles wants his niece, Zara Tindall, to consider a role as a working royal - a title which should have been given "all along" it has been claimed.

Zara's recent outings publicly supporting the heir to the throne, Prince William, at Royal Ascot and previously at the Buckingham Palace party alongside the wider Royal Family have sparked suggestions that the mother-of-three could take on an official role within the Firm.

A royal source told New Idea: "There's talk that niece Zara Tindall, 43, who is very close to her uncle might become more involved in this side of things, and that Charles is keen to support such an interest by bestowing on her the title of princess."

The source goes on to suggest King Charles believes Zara should have been given the title "all along".

Columnist for the Times, Hilary Rose, writes: "The public warm to Zara in a way that they won't warm to, say the York sisters, who are allegedly keen to undertake more royal duties."

Hilary explains how Princess Anne's daughter seems more 'down-to-earth' than her other cousins. She writes: "Like their parents, the York sisters come across as just a little bit too keen on the flummery, and the public sense it. Zara, on the other hand, is allergic to flummery and the public sense that, too."

Zara, who married the former rugby union champion Mike Tindall in 2011, previously said she was "lucky" to not have a royal title.

She said on an episode of Rob Burrow’s Total Sport podcast: "From my point of view, I was obviously very lucky that my mother didn't give us any titles, so I really commend her on that."

Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara Tindall and her loving husband, Mike are often pictured at prestigious royal events alongside the wider Royal Family. Despite the couple not holding any official royal titles and not receiving any financial help from the Crown, the duo are believed to be worth a staggering £30million as reported in Hello! Magazine.

Through a combination of sporting accolades, endorsement deals, and TV appearances, Mike, 45, and Zara, 43, have various streams of steady income.

A royal commentator has also suggested how Zara Tindall could become Prince William's Princess Anne in a "slimmed down monarchy" when he takes the throne.

Angela Mollard, a columnist for News Corp, said Zara and William are the "best of friends", and if she were in his shoes, it would make sense "pulling in" somebody as "trusted" and "faithful" as Zara.

Heart-warming images in May, also saw Zara pull her uncle, King Charles in for a warm embrace and a kiss shortly after he arrived at the staple royal event - the Royal Windsor Horse Show. It marked a further sign that the King's health is improving and he is responding well to treatment, after being diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer at the start of the year.

Zara has also drawn attention from royal fans after her appearance at Royal Ascot last month, being dubbed the "star of Ascot" due to her fabulous outfits.

One fan on Instagram said: "I feel like Zara is the most consistently smashing these days." User @Natt.katt said: "Zara is the star of Ascot this year."
