Princess Eugenie has posted the sweetest tribute to her mother Sarah Ferguson on Instagram to mark Scoliosis Awareness Month, saying she was "forever grateful" to Fergie for getting her help with her condition.

Eugenie was diagnosed with the condition, which causes a curvature of the spine, when she was a child and underwent surgery, leaving her with a scar on her back.

The Princess is now patron of the charity Scoliosis Association UK and proudly showed off her scar in her open-back wedding dress when she married Jack Brooksbank in October 2018.

She shared an image of herself as a young girl on the social media channel accompanied by Fergie on the school run, with the caption: "My mum caught my scoliosis early and I was lucky enough to get the help I needed at 12 years old.

"I thank her so much for that and also thank her for the confidence to be proud of my scar. She removed all the stigma around having scoliosis for me by confidently showing people what I’d been through and it took all the fear and anxiety out of being different at such a young age."

Eugenie concluded her message with the words: "I am forever grateful and wish everyone to be proud of their scars."

The post attracted widespread praise from royal fans in the comments section, with one saying: "A Mother's Love and Strength is Amazing.

"I salute your Wonderful Brave Mother and You as well for sharing such information to show all affected like you were that there is a way to overcome this problem and to encourage awareness that help is at hand."

Another added: " Your mum is a wonderful lady and she must be very proud of her two lovely daughters. Your openness about your scoliosis and Beatrice's about her dyslexia will have helped a lot of young people with the same conditions. I loved your wedding dress and how you didn't try to hide the scar from your surgery."

A third person shared their story: "You had your scoliosis surgery shortly after I had had mine. I remember thinking, 'Well if a princess has scoliosis, it can’t be all that bad!'

"It made me feel better, helped to normalize it, and your posts always help to strengthen the power of our scars. So thank you for that."

Eugenie's wedding dress was designed by Peter Pilotto which featured a low V-shaped back to show her scar running down her spine, with the Princess also not wearing a veil to help it stand out even more.

Speaking to This Morning shortly before her wedding day at Windsor, Eugenie explained: "I had an operation when I was 12 on my back, and you'll see on Friday [at the wedding], but it's a lovely way to honour the people who looked after me and a way of standing up for young people who also go through this.

"I think you can change the way beauty is, and you can show people your scars and I think it's really special to stand up for that."

Eugenie and her husband Jack have since welcomed two sons together, August in February 2021 and Ernest in May 2023.

The family currently split their time between the UK and Portugal, where Jack has been working on the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club development.
