Princess Anne's absence from royal engagements the past week has only reinforced one key observation regarding King Charles's reign, a royal expert has claimed.

The Princess Royal, who was discharged from hospital on Friday morning, had been staying at Southmead Hospital in Bristol since last Sunday evening after she suffered a concussion and minor head injuries following an incident involving a horse at her Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire.

Anne was visited by her nearest and dearest while in hospital, including her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence and her daughter, Zara Tindall.

But she was unable to attend several major events throughout the week, including those involving the Emperor and Empress of Japan, who made a three-day state visit to the UK.

Now, a royal expert has suggested that the royal's absence proves just how important she is to the monarchy and to King Charles.

Veteran royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams claimed her short break from duties highlighted how "pivotal" her work is to how the Royal Family operates.

He told the Express: "Her [Princess Anne's] charitable work is pivotal to the way the Royal Family operates and she normally carries out the most engagements.

"She is reliable, dislikes fuss and has a very special relationship with Save the Children.

"She has always been popular with the public."

Previously, Mr Fitzwilliams told us how Anne would have not liked being asked to slow down from royal engagements as he labelled her the "most impatient patient" as she waited for her recovery to finish.

He said: "She [Princess Anne], like her father the late Prince Philip, won’t enjoy being asked to slow down and she will be a most impatient patient.

"She found the lockdowns frustrating as she could not meet people, whilst doing her charitable work, which she loves."

Due to Anne's concussion, the royal was said to be unable to remember precise details of the incident, however, her medical team said her head injuries were consistent with a potential impact from a horse's head or legs.
