Chris McCausland addresses Strictly rumours and says BBC 'couldn't afford insurance'

The next series of Strictly Come Dancing is just a few months away and bookies are already anticipating who will take to the dancefloor this year.

The One Show: Chris McCausland addresses Strictly rumours

Chris McCausland has shared his thoughts on the reported rumours of him going on Strictly Come Dancing. The British comedian, 46, appeared on The One Show and was quizzed about claims he'd signed up to the BBC dance competition.

Hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp asked the TV star whether the rumours were true, to which he joked: "Are there [rumours]? I haven't seen the papers."

This left Roman in stitches, as Chris suffers from blindness. Alex then continued to press on and asked him if he has any dancing experience or if he was starting fresh.

Chris responded: "I grew up with rock and metal and head-banging and mosh pits and crowd-surfing. That is the extent. Let's be honest - I don't think the BBC can afford the insurance, could they? I would take out three cameras a week."

There have been a number of other rumoured celebrities joining the next series of Strictly Come Dancing, including Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts.

The Sun reports that the 38-year-old star is being eyed up by BBC bosses to be on the popular dance competition. However, this isn't the first time that Nicola has ties with Strictly as she previously appeared on a Christmas special episode in 2022.

She was partnered with Giovanni Pernice but was beaten to the title by EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick. A source told The Sun: “Nicola is a beautiful dancer with amazing musicality. She was really impressive on the Strictly special and her waltz was beautiful.

"They’d love to have Nicola back and the offer is there for her. She has got a jam-packed summer with Girls Aloud but Strictly think she could be amazing if she fancied a whirl."

The BBC have previously been contacted for comment by Express.co.uk. Nicola's band mate Kimberley Walsh also appeared as a celebrity contestant in 2012 and finished as a runner-up on Strictly.

Another celebrity who has hit the headlines include Britain's Got Talent winner Sydnie Christmas. The star is now rumoured to be tipped for the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom as bookmakers Betideas have given her odds of 7/1 to appear on the BBC competition.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One later this year.
