Emmerdale viewers were left reeling and took to social media to express their dismay following the dramatic events of Thursday's episode.

The tension in the village reached a boiling point when Matty Barton found himself embroiled in a shocking incident that could change his life forever. Fresh from passing his driving test, Samson Dingle arrived at HOP with his new mate Josh, ready to kick off the celebrations.

However, the mood quickly soured as Josh began making unwanted advances towards Amy Barton, prompting her to duck out of work early. Matty stepped in, telling Josh off for his inappropriate behaviour and insisting he and Samson leave the premises immediately.

But a humiliated Josh wasn't about to let things go and stormed back into HOP, determined to settle the score with Matty, dragging Samson along. The confrontation turned violent when Josh demanded cash from the till and in the ensuing scuffle, Samson ended up getting stabbed by the knife Matty was holding.

Paramedics rushed to the scene, but Josh twisted the story, falsely claiming to Moira Barton and Amy that Matty had "come at me with a knife" and that he had merely dodged, resulting in Samson's injury, reports the Liverpool Echo.

As Matty was taken away by the police, despite his desperate claims of innocence, Emmerdale's official Instagram account posted a snippet of the harrowing scene, accompanied by Matty's plea: "'Honestly, this wasn't me'".
