Mayor of Greek island issues defiant pledge to give Michael Mosley's family hope

The search for missing TV presenter Michael Mosley continues as police and locals continue to investigate his mystery disappearance on a Greek island.

The mayor of the Greek Island where British TV presenter Michael Mosley is missing has said there is “no chance” the search will be called off until he is found.

The 67-year-old doctor went missing on Wednesday evening while walking along a coastal route on a Greek island. He is understood to have walked home alone after "growing tired."

Eleftherios Papakaloudoukas, the mayor of Symi, has vowed to continue the extensive search operation which has involved police, firefighters with drones, and divers.

Mosley and his wife Dr Clare Bailey are understood to have been staying at a villa in Symi’s main harbour. When he set off on his walk, temperatures rose to a scorching mid-thirties and it should have taken him 25 minutes to complete the kilometre route.

Mr Papakaloudoukas said he hoped Mosley would be found “safe and alive”, stating: “All the community is so sad about this, (it has) never happened before.”

He also questioned how anyone could survive the brutal conditions on the day of his disappearance. A search dog was only able to work for an hour on Saturday morning due to the heat.

It is undestood that Michael left his phone at his holiday accommodation. Those leading the investigation have said that they were open to all possibilities, including that the presenter could have "fallen" from a height.

Constantina Dimoglidou, a senior police spokesman, said: "We have now asked the fire brigade to assist in the operation in the case that he may have slipped, tripped, fallen, even bitten by a snake, remaining injured somewhere."

Michael is best known for being a famous TV presenter, having starred in several BBC and Channel 4 documentaries. He is also a regular guest on The One Show on BBC One and hosts the podcast, Just One Thing.

Jeremy Vine expressed his concern on BBC Radio Two, saying: " I’m praying this lovely man is found and thinking of Clare and the whole Mosley family."

Friends have sent out pleas on Facebook seeking help in search of the missing doctor, leading to many theories as to what could have happened to him. The leading theory is that Michael could have fallen into the sea.
