United had high hopes for Phil Jones when they signed him from Blackburn Rovers in 2011.
Sir Alex Ferguson even compared him to Dunan Edwards, the legendary defender who tragically died in the 1958 Munich Air Disaster.
But Jones has never kicked on and is likely to be sold. Newcastle were linked - but whether they still retain an interest remains to be seen.
Chris Smalling
Like Jones, Chris Smalling was another being United thought had the potential to be special.
But, though he was a good servant for the club, he was loaned out to Serie A giants Roma last year.
Smalling has impressed there but United don’t need him back. He’s unlikely to return to the Theatre of Dreams and Roma would love to keep him on their books.
Sergio Romero has been a loyal servant to United ever since signing on a free transfer back in 2015.
But with Dean Henderson primed to return from his loan spell at Sheffield United, the Argentine could leave the club.
He’s reportedly keen to return to his home country for once last challenge before retirement - and Solskjaer is unlikely to stand in his way.
Jesse Lingard
Jesse Lingard is a success story of the United academy.
But the England international has been on the wane ever since the 2018 World Cup in Russia, going a whole year without a Premier League goal or assist.
United can’t guarantee him regular football with Bruno Fernandes and Juan Mata Solskjaer’s preferred options. Consequently, a move away could suit the 27-year-old.
