Alejandro Garnacho hasn't been named in Argentina's squad for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, despite his reported desire to participate in the event this summer. Manchester United are said to have blocked the 19-year-old's involvement following his busy season that is still ongoing at the Copa America.

No United outfield player made more appearances than Garnacho's 50 last season, in which he scored 10 goals and provided five assists.

He ended the campaign by making 38 consecutive starts and, following a limited break, is currently representing Argentina at the Copa America.

Garnacho was an unused substitute in the holders' 2-0 win against Canada and 1-0 victory over Chile, but Lionel Scaloni handed him a start in the 2-0 triumph against Peru.

Argentina are the favourites to retain their crown in the United States this summer, and they will then go for Olympic gold under Javier Mascherano 10 days after the Copa America final.

But Garnacho won't be involved in Paris after United reportedly blocked an approach and later turned down his request to participate.

In May, TNT Sports Argentina reported that Mascherano wanted to add the Red Devils' No. 17 to his Olympics squad after an impressive season at Old Trafford.

The following month, TyC Sports claimed that Garnacho had requested talks with manager Erik ten Hag after Argentina were informed he wouldn't be released.

But he has missed out on a spot in Mascherano's squad and will instead focus on his preparations for the 2024/25 campaign after the Copa America.

The football event at the Olympics runs from July 24 to August 10, the date of the Community Shield match against Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.

In the weeks leading up to that, United are on their pre-season tour and are scheduled to face Arsenal in Los Angeles, Real Betis in San Diego and Liverpool in South Carolina.

Garnacho represents Ten Hag's first-choice right winger after leapfrogging Antony in the pecking order, and he'll be primed for another prominent role next term.

Manchester City's Julian Alvarez, Benfica's Nicolas Otamendi and Benfica's Geronimo Rulli are Mascherano's most high-profile inclusions for the Paris tournament.

Argentina will face Morocco, Iraq and Ukraine in the group stage.
