EastEnders has unveiled a heart-wrenching exit following an unexpected twist in its early release on BBC iPlayer.

Alan Ford's character, Stevie Mitchell, has said his goodbyes to Walford in poignant scenes, but not before orchestrating a clever revenge scheme against Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden). Billy (Perry Fenwick) was left stunned after discovering the truth about his mother's demise.

He was urged to abandon his younger son Teddy (Roland Manookian), however, Stevie wasn't prepared to let this happen and jumped into a taxi to set things straight. He was also ready to give Phil - who had framed him for theft - a taste of his own medicine.

Meanwhile, Teddy tried to cheer up Billy but Stevie arrived at The Queen Vic and pleaded with his brother to heed their father's advice, knowing that otherwise, Stevie wouldn't back down.

The long-standing character admitted that getting to know his grandchildren had been profoundly significant to him, confessing that he would bear the guilt and shame of his actions for the rest of his life. He then expressed his pride in his sons before leaving them to reflect on his words, reports the Mirror.

Stevie was later spotted outside, eyeing Phil's car and cautioning him about the perils of pushing away his loved ones. In a quick manoeuvre, he managed to snatch the keys to Phil's vehicle.

Mo Harris (Laila Morse) was given the keys, who then sold the car and handed Stevie a substantial amount of money. This money was intended as a gift for Billy.

Phil's fury knew no bounds when he discovered his car was gone, and he promptly reported the theft to the police, who were slow to react.

Stevie requested to say goodbye to Will (Freddie Phillips) and Janet (Grace). He shared heartfelt words with his grandchildren and had a relatively peaceful farewell with Billy, discreetly leaving the money behind for them.

An emotional farewell kiss was shared between Stevie and a tearful Mo, as they both reflected on what could have been if he had stayed.

Alone and looking at Billy's house, Stevie confessed his profound love for Billy, who was also wrestling with his own feelings as he sat with Teddy.

Billy soon discovered the cash, along with a photo of Stevie, himself, and their late brother Charlie from a day out in 1960.

As the drama surrounding Phil's car unfolded, Stevie sped away in a taxi, grinning to himself. From what we can tell, this appears to be Stevie's final act, but who knows, we might see him again...

Eastenders usually airs on BBC One and can be streamed via iPlayer.
