EastEnders' Billy Mitchell (played by Perry Fenwick) has been left heartbroken after discovering the truth about his mother's death in the latest episode of the soap.

Billy, a market stall holder, had planned a family celebration for his father Stevie's birthday, which led to a shocking revelation. The party was interrupted by a suspicious Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), prompting Stevie (Alan Ford) to finally admit that Billy's mother Val had died - having taken her own life many years ago.

Billy and his half-brother Teddy (Roland Manookian) were left shocked as Stevie confessed that his affair with Teddy's mother had driven Val to suicide when Billy was only nine years old.

A devastated Billy had spent his entire life believing that his mother had abandoned their family and was still alive somewhere. The additional revelation that Stevie had started a new family with Teddy, while young Billy was placed in care, led to a violent confrontation as Billy lashed out at his newfound brother, reports the Daily Star.

As he struggled to come to terms with the news of his mother's death, an emotional Billy declared he couldn't bear to be around Stevie and Teddy any longer.

Phil took particular delight in Stevie's latest deception and encouraged Billy to realise that Stevie was bad news and should be permanently ousted from the Mitchell family.

In a private call to his beloved fiancee Honey (Emma Barton), who was away caring for her sick Aunt Caroline, Billy poured out his heart in a voicemail, struggling to articulate the devastating news of his mother's suicide.

Meanwhile, Teddy paid another visit to Billy, explaining that he hadn't known about Val's death. He encouraged Billy not to abandon their budding brotherly relationship.

When Billy recounted his years at the bottom of the family hierarchy, Teddy insisted that Billy was wealthy in terms of his devoted loved ones, making him superior to clan head Phil.

Later, Teddy had a drink with his father outside The Vic and suggested he leave Walford. During an emotional conversation, Teddy said: "You turned mum into some big lie as well. Mum, like she was just some girl you picked up one night.

"You can't help yourself, can you? You've lied your entire life and now you just can't stop. It's not just you and Billy you have flushed down the khazi neither."

Stevie took a gulp of his drink and asked Teddy: "So what happens now? ". "Well that's me and Billy now", Teddy replied, "So I think it's best you go."

Looking upset and disappointed, Stevie glares at his son - but will he leave Albert Square for good?

Meanwhile, Billy was taken aback when his son Will (played by Freddie Phillips) misinterpreted his frustration and disclosed that Phil had manipulated him into framing Stevie for the theft of charity funds.

Spurred on by Teddy's support and incensed by Phil's continuous deception, Billy confronted him, stating that the family matriarch Peggy (portrayed by Barbara Windsor) would be appalled if she knew.

Billy highlighted that he had spent years idolising Phil, but now considered him "the runt of the litter", much to the bemusement of the tough guy.

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
