Saturday Kitchen fans declare it's ‘going downhill’ as live show cancelled in shake-up

Fans of the popular morning cooking show were disappointed this week as yet another live broadcast of Saturday Kitchen was cancelled for the summer.

Saturday Kitchen did not air a live show this week, leaving dedicated fans of the BBC Two programme disappointed.

The channel has undergone a huge change to the schedule this week in part thanks to the Paris Olympics dominating the coverage this summer.

Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty were already pulled from BBC Breakfast hours earlier than usual thanks to the games kicking off on Saturday with the swimming events.

Now, another stalwart of weekend shows failed to treat fans with a new live broadcast, instead airing clips of some of the best recipes from the show’s history.

Matt Tebbutt hosted the clip show, which included an array of gourmet guests including Gennaro Contaldo, Nisha Katona and Yotam Ottolenghi.

On Friday, the Saturday Kitchen X (formerly Twitter) account shared: “Saturday Kitchen's Tastiest Treats tomorrow at 10AM on @BBCTwo! We asked for YOUR all-time favourite dishes and you didn't disappoint!”

Fans were clearly let down by the change in schedule and took to social media to complain.

One user replied to the post: “Or another chance to show more REPEATS this program really is going downhill fast and no brakes.”

And another replied with a furious gif exclaiming: “Do it live!”

Another disgruntled viewer critised the change in schedule: “A cross between bbcbreakfast and that b****y awful Saturday Kitchen.

“Just what every sport lover needs. A blockbuster start from the bbc.”

A third fan fumed: “Lazy use of the #bbclicense fee!!”

While a final fan cut to the chase and said simply: “Cancel this show.”

Viewers may well be waiting for some time before Matt is back for another live episode, as Olympics coverage will dominate until the games wrap up on Sunday, August 11.

Saturday Kitchen airs Saturdays at 10am on BBC Two.
