Zoe Ball's son, DJ Woody Cook, has opened up about his sweet relationship with grandfather Johnny Ball. The TV legend brought maths and science to the masses in an entertaining and accessible way for young people throughout the 70s and 80s.

With shows such as Think of a Number, Think Again, Think Backwards, Think...This Way and Johnny Ball Reveals All he was an integral part of several generations of children's childhood.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk in advance of his appearance at the forthcoming Mucky Weekender festival, which runs from September 5-7, the 23-year-old DJ said he would love to do more work with the telly icon.

"Well, I'm gonna tell you, never ask him for help with your maths homework," he laughed. "You're gonna get the exact opposite of what you ask for.

"You'll get a huge, long roundabout Pythagoras and why the sky is blue [lecture] before you get back to what you are doing," he quipped. "He's brilliant. He's wonderful. I love spending time with him," he enthused.

"I'd love to do a show with him at some point because he's such a magic man. It's just in our day-to-day we just never get enough time to spend with our families and loved ones because it's just the way the world is, but I'd love to do something with him again," Woody admitted

Now 86 Johnny still appears on screens from time to time. in 2012 he was one of the celebrities on Strictly Come Dancing where he was paired with Aliona Vilani. However, he was eliminated in week one after Aliona was replaced by Iveta Lukošiūtė when she was injured in training.

Two years ago he delighted fans when he appeared with Woody and mum Zoe on an episode of the Channel 4 reality show Gogglebox. Woody and Zoe were regulars on the show for several series and Woody says he had no worries about putting their relationship on television.

"Me and my mum have such a close bond, it kind of screams through the TV so I've never been really worried about showing it on TV. I mean we're rude, we're crude," he laughs. "We're more worried about what's going to be in the edit.

"Like, what penis joke or what stupid little...I mean, I'm more worried about the just random s**** we talk than any actual tension or anything."

Woody is currently forging his own career in show business as a DJ and presenter and is making quite a few waves in the industry.

Having just performed several sets throughout the Glastonbury Festival he will soon take to the stage at Mucky Weekender, which is one of his favourite festivals.

"It's beautiful," he gushes when asked about it. "I mean, the people running it are kind of extended family. I feel like I know every second person there.

"It's kind of like a big, big family festival, almost in a weird way, big, great family," he said.

Woody Cook plays the Mucky Weekender Festival which runs from 5-7 September at Vicarage Farm, Winchester. Tickets are available here.
