The Boys season four may be arriving imminently but its ending is already on subscribers’ minds following some bittersweet news.
It has been two years since the epic action-packed drama was last seen on Amazon Prime Video and now there is just a matter of days before its return.
Fans have been dying to know what’s going to happen next after Queen Maeve sacrificed herself to save everyone from Soldier Boy with most assuming she’s dead.
Luckily, this wasn’t the case but she has lost her powers so only time will tell how her story is going to play out when the show returns on Thursday, June 13, on Prime Video.
It’s a big week for The Boys though as creator Eric Kripke took to X, formerly Twitter, with a very important announcement regarding the drama’s future.
Sharing an image of a season four script with its text blacked out, he wrote: ”Season four premiere this week is a good time to announce: Season five will be the final season!
“Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought.
“Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch season four in two days, cause the end has begun!”
Even though it is sad to see the hit show come to an end, many fans took to the comments section with the same reaction.

One fan commented: “Just the right length”, with another agreeing: “This is so sad but totally understandable! Short and sweet”.
A fellow user wrote: “That sucks but makes sense, you can’t just drag storylines on forever.”
“Really sad about this but so happy you won’t be dragging it out like other shows do. Thanks for everything Eric”, a third posted.
While someone else simply expressed their excitement, stating: “I can’t wait to see how it all ends.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have found themselves at the centre of public attention since they took a step back from senior royal duties in 2020.
In a trailer for the Netflix series about them, Prince Harry told viewers that “no one sees what’s happening behind closed doors” in a reference to how their lives may differ from what the public think about the couple. Meghan adds: “When the stakes are this high, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?”.
Reports suggested the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could receive up to $100 million for making the show, although this has been disputed and the true figure is unknown.
As of yet, there has been no indication of exactly when season five could premiere, especially since there has just been a two-year wait for series four.
Like many other series, the delay was in part due to the Hollywood actors and writers’ strikes and before that, it was the coronavirus pandemic that was causing delays.
But as long as there are no more unprecedented hold-ups, season five could potentially begin sometime in 2025.
The Boys season four premieres on Thursday, June 13, on Amazon Prime Video.
