BBC Breakfast: Sally Nugent emotional as she discusses Rob Burrows' life

BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent has broken her silence following her absence from the red sofa this week. Sally, who's typically seen on the show three days a week, made a brief appearance on Monday to pay respects to her dear friend Rob Burrow.

Co-host Jon Kay disclosed the reason behind Sally's short appearance was that she would be anchoring the new News at One from Salford. The midday news broadcast went live from its new location for the first time on Monday.

As previously declared during a revamp of BBC News last year, the relocation to Salford takes the News at One spot of being the pioneer daily network TV news bulletin outside London - set to last an hour instead of half an hour.

Joining Sally in leading the News at One from Salford are recognisable BBC News broadcasters such as Ben Brown, Anna Foster, Tina Daheley and Jon Kay. The extended programme will make room for regional news features.

Sally was the one to present the first bulletin, although she did make an appearance on Breakfast on Monday to honour Rob Burrow. Over the years, she has been documenting the rugby league star's struggle with MND.

However, following the presenter's absence from the show, fans have shared their concern about whether Sally has quit BBC Breakfast.

On Wednesday, Sally shared a clip from her BBC One News bulletin along with the caption: " How we closed the @BBCOne News at One today. With thanks to our brilliant teams in Salford London Portsmouth and northern France."

Fans flocked to the comment section to share their thoughts on Sally's new role, with many questioning whether she had left BBC Breakfast.

One said: "Aww Sally as nice as it is to see you on the 1pm news, I do hope you haven't left BBC Breakfast permanently x."

"Have you now left the Breakfast sofa for good Sally?" another asked.

While a third added: "Missing you on the morning slot Sally."

Someone else went on: " I can't get used to being on at 1pm instead of on the breakfast sofa xx."

"Oh no Sally don’t tell me we have lost you in the morning you start off my day brilliant," one commented.

BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
