Casualty: Dylan confronts Patrick

Casualty's Patrick Onley (Jamie Glover) has been causing division in Holby ED since he arrived and is making life miserable for the staff ironically though his Machiavellian behaviour has actually brought Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) and Dylan Keogh (William Beck) closer.

The pair both realise he is tearing the team apart and have been working hard to try to get to the bottom of his agenda and get some dirt on him. It has led some fans online to compare them to Cagney and Lacey, something which Stevie actress Elinor finds highly amusing.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk she opened up on their detective double act and what the future holds for the pair. "I'm delighted that there's been such a positive reaction to the Stevie and Dylan partnership," she said as she spoke from her dressing room in between scenes.

"I think those two characters are both quite driven by a sense of justice. And I think the minute that they can have a big hint of the injustice that's going on their superpower is kind of cutting through the lies.

"Fairness drives them totally. You're getting good cop or detective Noir vibes. You have these two characters who are in pursuit of what they see to be right," she explained.

Although they may seem full of bravado Elinor admits they both have concerns about repercussions for their careers as they investigate the Clinical Lead.

"I think that's absolutely at play because if there wasn't then there would be no stakes for them," she pondered. They are worried that there will be some kind of collateral damage left in Patrick's wake and that does up the stakes of those characters.

"And of course for both Stevie and Dylan Holby is kind of their life. It's like the centre of their very existence. So somebody coming along and potentially threatening that it will make decisions tougher for them in terms of getting this guy out."

Pondering on a future for the characters after this storyline she can't give any spoilers away but admits she hopes that there is more to come for the duo.

"I really love working with Will (Beck who plays Dylan). I love that there's a real spark in it [their relationship]. Hopefully, there will be more storylines where they can get to join forces so you never know," she teased.

She is also a fan of Patrick's character, despite the carnage he has caused.

"I think what makes Patrick a really successful character is because there is a definite kind of divide and conquer strategy," she said.

"I think what is lovely about this particular story, what's so gripping about this particular story is that you have characters coming together for the greater good, and putting the greater good over their own personal goals or their own hopes and desires.

"For something like the NHS just when people come together for the greater good [it's powerful]. I think that's at stake very much in this story."

Casualty is on BBC One on Saturday nights with previous episodes available on the BBC iPlayer.
