Prince Andrew is no longer a respected member of the community, but he has yet to come to terms with it, instead, he sees his daughters as a way to make a comeback, says one royal expert.

In 2019, Andrew agreed to a sit-down interview with Newsnight’s Emily Maitlis, which resulted in him being stripped of his HRH title and royal duties. It’s been five years, and he’s done nothing to redeem himself, says royal biographer Andrew Lownie.

Mr Lownie is working on a joint biography revolving around Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s marriage, the first of its kind, which is expected to be a bombshell.

Daily Express US spoke to the acclaimed author, who said: “Andrew, I don’t think, accepts his life in the public sphere is over, but I think he’s been very keen to push his daughters.

“He sees an opportunity with Kate and the king ill, and a little bit of a gap in that generation, otherwise you’re going to have some teenagers. The daughters have been used as a weapon.”

This isn’t necessarily a new thing with Mr Lownie saying Andrew has always wanted his daughters to be working royals. Beatrice and Eugenie recently attended a Buckingham Palace Garden Party, hosted by their cousin Prince William, which Mr Lownie sees as a way to “test the waters."

According to the royal biographer, William is trying to bring in other people to help with engagements, but the York sisters are “slightly tainted by the parents” and they have been “compromised by some really shady people,” like Beatrice’s ex-boyfriend, Paolo Liuzzo, who died of a suspected drug overdose in February of this year.

There’s been talk of Beatrice and Eugenie being upgraded to working royals, but Mr Lownie does not believe this to be the case.

He said: “The girls are not necessarily the way King Charles would like to present the future of the monarchy, they are girls who have had lots and lots of free holidays, have not really held down proper jobs, have basically milked the system, almost as much as the mother.”

Andrew and Sarah separated in 1992, following Sarah’s very public romantic entanglement with an American businessman, and they officially divorced in 1996.

From there, the duchess leaned into her royalness, writing a memoir, entitled Finding Sarah: A Duchess's Journey, and starred in a six-part docuseries, which aired on The Oprah Winfrey Network, among other commercial ventures like being a spokeswoman for Weight Watchers.

The sisters have not shown any interest in being working royals, at least not publicly, but if the opportunity were to arise, it seems like they would jump at the chance, which we discussed with Mr Lownie.

He said: “They’re very keen to be involved, they love the attention, there they are, going on the radio shows, they’re all involved in a PR exercise at the moment.”

“I think Andrew’s very keen to get them back on the balcony.”

There’s been talk of Beatrice and Eugenie taking on more prominent roles, but it’s being refuted by royal insiders, that it will not be in an official capacity.
